Green to Grey

The planet was screaming. We turned up the music. I wrote this with the volume on.

"Green to grey" Once the earth was alive with colors so bright Fields stretched wide under the soft morning light But whispers of greed spread slow like a stain Now the soil's cracked lost to the strain They used to dream of a world untamed Now they turn their backs to what's left unnamed Messages spoken but they couldn't hear As the truth faded it disappeared "Green to grey" They turned their eyes to the towers that rise Trading the stars for the artificial skies Voices of hope drowned by the loud And the beauty they had slipped into the crowd Once they were green but the colors have gone Before the world turned its back the sun shined so strong They reached for the sky but the clouds took the day Now the sun feels so far and the hope fades away "And they turn from green to grey" The blooms once bloomed now they wither away A moment of promise now lost in the fray The winds once carried dreams light as a feather Now they carry smoke but it doesn't get better They talked of a future but forgot how to care Choosing the shortcut but unaware Once rich with promise now barren and dry And the earth they knew just passed them by "Green to grey" A call for the wild but the city's too loud They chant for salvation but it's just a crowd The truth slipped away now it's hard to see The world they could've built's a memory Once they were green but the colors have gone Before the world turned its back the sun shined so strong They reached for the sky but the clouds took the day Now the sun feels so far and the hope fades away And they turn from green to grey It ain't about blame ain't about who's right It's about losing the way when they gave up the light They said the future's bright but it's hard to see When the world they built ain't what it was meant to be "Green to grey" The light they once chased now flickers so faint But maybe just maybe there's still time to repaint The fog could break the sun might find its place But the time to decide can't be left to waste Once they were green but the colors have gone Before the world turned its back the sun shined so strong They reached for the sky but the clouds took the day Now the sun feels so far and the hope fades away So they turned from green to grey
